New Study: More American Families View TV Parental Guidelines Favorably
On July 14, 2016, the TV Parental Guidelines Monitoring Board released key findings of a recent nationwide survey of parents conducted on the TV Parental Guidelines. According to the study, parentsí awareness of the TV ratings system remains very high and most feel they understand the ratings system. More parents report using the guidelines more often today than they did in 2011 and 2014. Additionally 96 percent of parents report that they are satisfied with the accuracy of parental ratings for TV shows on broadcast and cable television, including 59 percent who are very satisfied.

On July 10, 1997, the television industry and the public advocacy community announced the TV Parental Guideline System consisting of combined age and content based ratings. Download the announcement.

On March 12, 1998, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted an order finding the TV Parental Guidelines acceptable and established requirements for installing V-Chips into televisions 13 inches or greater manufactured after Jan. 1, 2000.  Download the announcement.

On April 6, 2012, the TV Parental Guidelines Monitoring Board delivered key findings of a recent survey conducted on the TV Parental Guidelines to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). More than 90 percent of parents say they are aware of the TV Parental Guidelines Ratings System, while over two-thirds say they use the ratings to manage their family TV viewing, according to this new study conducted on behalf of the Monitoring Board.   Download the announcement.

On June 12, 2014, the TV Parental Guidelines Monitoring Board released key findings of a recent survey conducted on the TV Parental Guidelines. According to the study, almost 95 percent of parents say they are aware of the TV ratings system, while 72 percent of parents say they use the TV ratings system to manage their family TV viewing, up from a similar study conducted in 2011. Additionally, 84 percent of parents find the TV ratings system helpful. Download the announcement.
